Protecting our independent retailers
The Retail Mutual is dedicated to providing an alternative to traditional insurance for the independent retail community. We exist to help give you peace of mind and are passionate about protecting the independent retail businesses on our high streets.
We began life in 1999 as The NFRN Mutual providing cover to independent news retailers and have been proudly supporting our Members for 19 years. As the retail landscape has evolved, so too has the Mutual. Today we are able to serve the entire independent retail community; pubs, post offices, confectioners, clothes shops, farm shops, florists and many more in between. We became The Retail Mutual in 2017 to reflect the changing nature of our Membership.
We are dedicated to meeting both the current and future needs of our Members, continuing to grow, innovate and introduce new products and services in pursuit of our mission to become a one-stop-shop for the diverse cover needs of the UK’s independent retail community.
It’s all about people
Real retailers are the reason behind The Retail Mutual; real people, running real businesses, overcoming similar challenges, sharing their experiences and celebrating each-others’ success.
Even our Board of Directors are Members of the Mutual themselves and all have first-hand experience of working within the retail sector.
It is our community ethos that sets us apart from traditional insurance companies; our Members are independent but they are not alone. When the unexpected happens The Retail Mutual is here to help, with a sympathetic ear, practical advice and a fast-and-easy claims process.
Together we protect what matters to you
