Over the course of 20 years we have developed important relationships with a range of commercial and not-for-profit organisations that compliment our core values of commitment, cooperation and community.
We believe in taking a collaborative approach to provide the best range of products for our Members and we work closely with our strategic partners who trust us to deliver innovative, cost-effective, service-led products that provide tangible benefits to their own customer communities.
We are always looking for new and innovative ways to expand our community and enhance our offering to our Members. Whether it be the launch of a new product or service, a fresh route to market or a new charitable venture, we welcome discussions with all organisations who are interested in collaborating with the Mutual for the benefit of our Members.
National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN)
The Retail Mutual was initially established to provide cover specifically to the NFRN’s members of news retailers at a time when they were facing high premiums and limited choice in the insurance market. More than 20 years on, our relationship remains as strong as it was when The Mutual was first formed, and although we now represent more than 100 different retail and service trades, a significant proportion of our members are still drawn from the UK’s sizeable news and convenience sector.
Smiths News is the UK’s leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler, with customers ranging from small, independent retailers in remote areas to some of the nation’s biggest supermarkets. Thanks to our ongoing commercial partnership, all Smiths News’ retailers who are Members of the Mutual are able to benefit from our unique weekly payment option to pay for their Business, Home and Landlord cover.
“For over seven years we’ve been introducing our customers to the NFRN Mutual’s high-quality service. The new brand of The Retail Mutual reflects their success in meeting the specific needs of independent retailers and we wish them every success as they expand their reach across the UK.”
Jon Bunting, CEO, Smiths News.
Menzies is a newspaper and magazine wholesaler, serving primary clients in the press, travel and tourism sectors. We continue to collaborate with them to ensure that all news retailers, regardless of distributor, are able to access our unique weekly payment scheme to pay for their Business, Home and Landlord cover.
The Plunkett Foundation supports community enterprise particularly in rural areas. Community-owned village shops continue to be one of the leading success stories of the UK cooperative and social enterprise movement and we are delighted to partner with the Plunkett Foundation to offer competitive cover that is tailored to suit their individual needs.
“Plunkett is proud to collaborate with The Retail Mutual for the benefit of our members. Working closely with The Retail Mutual means we can offer our member community businesses cover that understands their specific needs and can be flexible to their requirements. We look forward to continuing our work together in the future”.
Harriet English, Head of Engagement, The Plunkett Foundation
International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF)
We are proud to be members of ICMIF, the voice of the world’s cooperative and mutual insurance sector. ICMIF aims to promote and work with the cooperative and mutual insurance sector globally by being a leader in providing information and services to members, and representing the interests of the global cooperative and mutual insurance sector.
Association of Financial Mutuals (AFM)
AFM is a professional, trustworthy, authoritative trade body, committed to protecting and progressing the principles of mutuality. AFM aims to promote a better understanding of mutuals, encouraging mutual support and mutual approaches to business and public policy, and provides an important platform for The Retail Mutual to learn, network and share best practice with other mutuals operating across the UK.
