National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN)
The Retail Mutual was initially established to provide cover specifically to the NFRN’s members of news retailers at a time when they were facing high premiums and limited choice in the insurance market. More than 20 years on, our relationship remains as strong as it was when The Mutual was first formed, and although we now represent more than 100 different retail and service trades, a significant proportion of our members are still drawn from the UK’s sizeable news and convenience sector.
Smiths News is the UK’s leading newspaper and magazine wholesaler, with customers ranging from small, independent retailers in remote areas to some of the nation’s biggest supermarkets. Thanks to our ongoing commercial partnership, all Smiths News’ retailers who are Members of the Mutual are able to benefit from our unique weekly payment option to pay for their Business, Home and Landlord cover.

Association of Financial Mutuals (AFM)
AFM is a professional, trustworthy, authoritative trade body, committed to protecting and progressing the principles of mutuality. AFM aims to promote a better understanding of mutuals, encouraging mutual support and mutual approaches to business and public policy, and provides an important platform for The Retail Mutual to learn, network and share best practice with other mutuals operating across the UK.
Goodman Jones are Chartered Accountants and business advisers who understand the needs and demands of entrepreneurs and family businesses and the interplay between the family and the business. Their services for small businesses include accounting, tax, supporting key negotiations with banks or suppliers, reviewing strategy and planning for succession. They also bring their expertise in property to help guide those with Buy To Let portfolios as well as commercial property.
Under Age Sales
Under Age Sales is a social enterprise that specialises in helping retailers prevent sales of restricted products to minors. It provides staff training, point of sale materials, compliance advice and advice for compliance planograms with all of your legal requirements set out.
Under Age Sales provides nationally recognised training and is an Edexcel accredited centre. Staff training is an essential element of establishing a system of due diligence to prevent underage sales. It may also help prosecution or licensing sanctions should a member of staff fail a test purchase.
